Another autobiographical poem - not quite sure about the date - it must have been during the Blitz of London. If the anti-aircraft guns got a German plane over the coast,it would crash with the full load of bombs. The 'pips' were a high-pitched signal that enemy aircraft were dangerously near, so you had to listen first for the 'pips all-clear', then (sometimes a long time later) for the 'proper all-clear'. 

Another of my autobiographical poems, intended mainly for friends and family. I'm not happy with the last two lines. Any suggestions? 

I've used some of James' suggestions and my visiting grand-daughter has rescued the poem from my computer illiteracy. 

This is my first posting in this group. I feel a bit shy about it, because it seems to lack the drama of most other work here. I'm keen to hear how it comes over to others. 

I haven't written anything since August, so I think this oldish piece jumped out at me as an image of drought and despair. Also I'm anxious about the rapid changes in the Middle East - could be so hopeful but could also be so disastrous.
