A fantastic collection of poetry, short prose and some other work that isn't easy to pigeonhole- rap? lyric?- from over 100 writers. This volume is published to celebrate the 21st birthday of the poetry collective Apples and Snakes, and features WW interviewee Michael Rosen, Jackie Kay, Adrian Mitchell, Roger McGough, Dannie Abse, Jean 'Binta' Breeze, John Hegley, and loads more. A really eclectic collection- some sweetly funny (Michael Rosen's 'I know why cats eat grass'..) some verging on incomprehensible, some thoughtful and profound. Most of the poets here are performers and some of the work feels flat on the page, but there's also much to celebrate and enjoy. You can't fail to find something lovable and stirring in this enormous anthology. |
