The screen version of Kwame Kwei-Armah's celebrated play, recently at the National Theatre. The author is also a Casualty regular. A really stunning piece of writing; sharp, beautiful dialogue, big themes, and not afraid to show them. So why it was buried away on BBC 4 late at night on January 22, I am at a mystery to understand.
The ending is devastating- but it never feels like an 'issue' play, and although it's filmed in one location, staying true to the play, it never lacked drama, tension of interest. Superb performances, subtle and comic and tragic, not a duff moment. If this comes on again at a theatre near you, go and see it!
