  • Silk ***** BBC1 Tuesdays. Episode 1 15th May

    If you didn't see the first series of this Peter Moffat written legal series - don't make the same mistake again.

    Based on this 1st of 6 - superb. It promises to be as good as anything you'll see for many a day. Apart from the writing, the characterisation is acute and the playing across the whole cast nigh on faultless: led by Maxine Peake who is laying down work to justify the judgement that she might just be the best actress currently working in TV.

    A treat. If sometimes, as this week, an uncomfortable one.

    Yes, I love this, Zettel! And now that the legendary Phil Davies has joined the cast as the bent brief we can expect the standard to rise even higher.

    I first saw her as Twinkle in Dinner Ladies. She's got a fine comedic style as well as a rare acting style. Glad there's something decent on the TV at last.
