 Love That Dog
 Vixen at 17:04 on 05 June 2006

I just finished a book I love. Love that Dog, by by Sharon Creech. It's poetry. It's written from the view point of a boy, about nine, compelled to read and write poetry by his teacher. Sample:

September 27

I don't understand
the poem about
the red wheelbarrow
and the white chickens
and why so much
depends upon
them.

If that is a poem
about the red wheelbarrow
and the white chickens
than any words
can be a poem.
You've just got to
make
short
lines.

Jack ends up, of course, understanding poetry - and part of the fun is seeing famous poems through Jack's eyes. Jack writes a pretty nice poem in the end, too. If I were an English teacher this would be a book I'd assign.

This sounds like great fun, Vixen, thanks for drawing it to my attention!

BRILLIANT!
Just read it!
And I would
recommend it
to
everyone.
As long as they don't
mind being
upset.
A little.
Because it's sad
in places.
But mostly it's
fun.

Seriously - well worth a read.

Nik.
