Those of you interested in war poetry may have heard of a woman poet, Alberta Vickridge, whose work often appears in anthologies - perhaps the most famous is 'In a V.A.D. Pantry'.
I taught the poetry of the First World War at an adult education class a few years back, and came across her work then, but found very little was known of her life. I started to research her life and work - and was amazed to learn that she came from my home city and lived a stone's throw from my workplace.
She is also the only writer from Yorkshire to have won a Bardic Crown and Bardic Chair for her poetry, and she ran, single-handed, a printing press from her home time when printing was (and still largely is) a male preserve.
I set up the information site out of respect for this formidable, yet forgotten writer. It may interest some of you to look at it
