Hi,
I'm in the middle of a chapter and cant find a word I want.
This old guy has just asked a lady he likes if she'd like to have dinner with him and to his srprise she said yes.
He is now asking if she wants to follow in her car or should they go in his. His words are coming out in a rush, he can't stop talking - you know that feeling when you're sort of embarrassed and surprised and shy all at the same time and find yourself talking nonstop.
Well, I need a word for it, I want to say 'he knew he was -'
What's the word, knew he was what?

Rambling?
Making no sense?
-
babbling?

Rambling is not quite right doesn't seem quick enough if that makes sense, but good word. I quite like babbling, and may use that if I can't find something else.
Isn't it awful when you know what you want to say, but can't find the right word?
I'm still thinking and searching.

I would have thought 'babbling' but the words suggested on rhymezone are blathering, blithering, gabbling, jabbering.
What about blithering: "blathering, blithering, gabbling, jabbering".

"talking idly or incoherently"

Sorry, I made a mess of that - copied the same thing twice!

How about these?
spluttering
stammering
gibbering

wittering? burbling?

Gibbering and wittering both sound like they might be suitable,
But I might stick with babbling, it seems to fit closest to what I want to say - I think.
Thanks everyone for helping. What would we all do without this site!
