Hello, I’m after some help with a short story - my character would know, but I don't - the right way to write the following phrases:
‘unwilling to trust his precious bons mots to memory’ – should it be bon mots? Or does the adjective marry?
What about ‘petit fours’ – should it be petits fours?
Pish, I was a tardy and lumpen pupil.

It's 'bons mots' if you mean it to be in the plural and likewise 'petits fours'.

Ah, have found one more French word I'm not sure about - is it bon bons de glace, or bons bons de glace? Thanks again for your help.

It is bonbon, plural is bonbons.
What are you trying to say with bonbon de glace? Iced sweets? something to do with ice cream? or rather than bonbon (sweet as in packet of sweets) do you need the word for dessert?

Hi Casey,
I can't remember where I copied the word from, but it's describing part of an assiette de framboise - a three-part pudding made with raspberries that includes chocolate-covered golf ball-sized spheres of ice cream. I definitely didn't make it up, but whether or not my source was good is another matter entirely...

It does, doesn't it - I wish writing the words conjured up the dessert. Although it's probably best that it doesn't; I'd need a larger chair by now. I shall go for bonbons de glace - they get described anyway, so it should be fine.
