An Excellent Lesson. What I liked was that these 'errors' are seen in the writings of established and respected writers, so there is always room for improvement for us all.
Thanks David, realy useful stuff. Johns idea of keeping a folder of tips and techniques sounds like a neat idea too. Must start one now!
On another note anyone know what happened to the smilies posting. It was there, then it just displayed 'error' and now it’s gone altogether. Revenge of the smilies? Always thought they were tricksome creatures.
The smilies thread was getting a bit ... heated. I suspect it was removed because some comments were getting rather personal, patronising and inappropriate.
Who would have thought a thread about smilies would be so contraversial!
That's easily the most useful top ten list I've seen. And if anyone's keen to see what their overused 'crutch' word is, there's a web page at http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/webtools/web_freqs.html where you can paste in your text and have a frequency analysis returned.
How fantastic. Actually, maybe it's not...I'll have to see what happens first when I try it. I did re-re-re-read something the other day and realised that my characters seemed to be constantly sighing!
