Yes, I think you may have been looking at it too long, funnyv. Try substituting other words - "Mrs A's (rather fat) cat was sick. "for instance. Would you think there might be a comma there some place?

I concur. There's nowhere for a comma to go, in that sentence, which is a single clause with a very simple structure.
