I think most of us, if given the choice between putting on a tearful performance for the cameras and being dragged off to starve in a labour camp (or worse), would opt for exercising whatever pathetic acting skills we were able to dredge up.

It's very real. North Koreans are like robots who are brought up to love their leader and to believe he is God. My first book is all about life in the labour camps. I spent a year doing research and the tales are heartbreaking.

It's not much real, you can see no tears rolling down their faces. A few of them looked funny, hitting the ground and crying.
