I can't open that download either. I can only open things that have .doc after them.

Well it can't be a .doc for the aforementioned reasons, but when I get a minute I'll try and save it as an .xls file and repost.

It really doesn't have to be a spreadsheet file, though. Remember those charts you used to make with paper and a ruler and pencil, to tick off the days to the end of term? (or was that just me?). It's only one of those.

Okay, I've changed the file to an .xls file, which is a MS Excel file, but which any spreadsheet programme should be able to open. It depends on your browser, but when you click on the link, your browser it should ask you whether you want to run or save the file, so either "run", to open it there and then, and do "save as" or just "save" it to your desktop or some such.

Hope it works - the link's at the bottom of the post here:

But please don't feel that you're stuck with the shape and arrangement I've got there - I've put in some headings to suggest the kinds of things you might choose to track, but the whole point is that it's up to you to decide what makes most sense for your novel.

    Works for me, hurray.

Too late for my current effort, but I'll certainly use a variant of this for my next one.

    Many thanks
