I need to do a one page synopsis of my current WiP. I started with a synopsis which runs to 9,000 words, so it's way too long. Has anyone got any tips, or has anyone blogged on turning a novel into a one page synopsis?
Bear in mind that a synopsis is an overview of the main plot, featurning the main and secondary characters.
It's not a series of chapter summaries, nor should it be cluttered with sub-plot and minor characters.
My first attempt was absolute tosh, but does it actually have to be one page?
I'm sure I thought that too, but then someone (Naomi, I think) said standard length can be up to two sides of A4, single-spaced, which I was very glad to hear!
It can be half a page if it's a blurby chick-lit-style novel, or up to two pages if it's a complexly plotted thriller - it depends on the novel. Each synopsis is tailored to fit the novel it's describing.
