Hi,
Despite a very promising start with a large amount of work uploaded, to a universally high standard, and a lot of good feedback given; the IC group is suffering from a bout of inactivity verging on humiliating death through inertia and disinterest.
I think that would be a shame, frankly. Like most of us, I have had a prolonged and frustrating battle with the world at large to get honest, constructive and useful feedback which, despite the limitations of a web forum, I have found the IC group has given me more of that than anything that I haven't paid for...
As you may know from my previous posts on similar subjects, I consider a larger group to be preferable to a smaller group - more members means more uploads means more critiques means more value. I also believe that it is important to spread critiques so that _all_ work within a group gets reviewed and nobody is ignored - so I applaud and hope to maintain the aspiration of at least three crits from three different members per piece uploaded.
More controversially, I have an utterly unanswered question on how to get useful "big picture" reviews of larger sections of a novel - not dotting and crossing the i's or t's, but a rather less detailed review simply stating "I couldn't follow the subplot about X" or whatever.
So, I am calling for new members who are specifically interested in getting in depth critique and I have also started a thread here
http://www.writewords.org.uk/groups/146_328741.asp to request any thoughts on how that can or should or might work.
