Hi,
I've just finished my second reading of "Write Away" by Elizabeth George (she writes the Inspector Lynley books). I have found it fascinating.
I always assumed - inspired by crappy TV and films - that to write you just sat at the computer and wrote. I had this idea that a 'true' writer just lets inspiration flow.
Reading her book on the way she writes I have realised why my first novel failed. As SueH says in another thread my novel floundered and lost itself because I did not spend enough time on characterisation and plotting. It is no wonder I could not re-draft and edit the problems out, there was no foundation to build upon. I am just beginning my second novel and am looking forward to trying some of the methods Elizabeth George recommends.
I realise this book will not suit everyone, it just happened to strike a cord with me. Check out a copy if you can.
Gina.
Thanks for that Gina. Will take a look. Sounds useful.
Sue
