Wonder if anyone can help me with two very basic questions?
1. I'm entering my novel in a comp, and they've asked for full name, address etc. on the first page of the manuscript. I'm assuming they mean they want these things on a cover page, along with the title?
2. My manuscript then begins with a quote. How should I number these pages - nothing on the cover page, and page 2 on the quote page? Or page one on the cover page etc.? Or nothing on the cover page or quote page and page 1 on the beginning of the novel itself?
Such little things, so much head-scratching!
Thanks,

Oh, and one more question: they also want a 2-page synopsis. Should I paper-clip or staple these two pages together, or just leave them loose? (They ask that the main manuscript should just have elastic bands on it.)
Can you fit your full name, address, etc, in the Header section of the first page? I do that whenever I submit to an Agent, and then I don't have to worry about page numbering.
Not sure about the synopsis, except to say never use a paperclip.
I've never tried to fit everything into the header section. Will try that now, though I suspect it won't work on my old PC (it's 12 years old!).

If it’s a comp, it’s probably very important that your name and address isn't on every page. Create a cover page with all the details they ask for. This is page one of the ms. Put the title and the page numbers in the header then, because a number looks a bit naff on a cover page, in header, click on ‘page setup’ then ‘layout’ then ‘different first page’. It’ll then automatically number all your pages except the cover page. The page with the quote will be page 2.
Thank you so much, Dee! That's exactly what I've just done, and it seemed right, but you know how it is when you think about it...
And yes, they only want personal details on the first page of the manuscript and the synopsis.
