    Has anyone used this? Have you found it helpful or organising/structuring/notes? Any comments would be interesting.

    I ask because I have been thinking for some time about getting this, and because we have a little advert on the left.

    Ani -

    Guess what - they don't call me Mr Gullible Buy Into Anything for nothing!

    I have it and it is top top stuff. A1. Bona Fide legendary.

    Most of the characters and settings in my zombie novel are born and nurtured on this. It's the first time I used it as an experiment, and I think they have come out strong and varied. Check out chapter 1 and 2 and see what you reckon. It doesn't write the story for you natch, but talk about saving on note paper! All your characters, all your settings, all your scenes etc.

    Very very handy and I recommend as a tool for writing a novel. Like I say, it won't be any good unless you embrace it and realise the potential. Its a good laugh too, coz you can experiment with all kinds of ideas. And remember, it doesn't write anything for you!!

    See ya

    David and Dav,

    Thanks for your comments. I am terribly disorganised, and this looked like it might be helpful in that respect. From your comments, it sounds like it is.

    Ani,

    I just downloaded NN on Saturday night. Yesterday I had a poke about with it and was a little worried that it might be something I wouldn't use. Then this morning I had another look and it all clicked into place... it's brilliant! Especially for people like me who make loads of notes but then can never find them because I forget where I put them.

    The only drawback, from my point of view, is that - like this site - there is no spellcheck or autocorrect but I can get round that by typing onto a word doc and copying.

    I think I'm too far into The Winter House to use NN with it but I've already started a plan for the next book. I'm so fired up I don't want to go to work!

    Thanks for drawing my attention to it.

    Oddly enough I decided to have a look at this today and see what price I could get it for so I clicked on a side add which was advertising the very same at superb prices, WOW when their page loaded I flet like the little boy who had the sweety jar taken away before he could put his hand in, amongst the list of software not one mention of New Novelist, so side adds NIL points

    <Added>

    forgot to mention it was the kelkoo side add

    <Added>

    since posting found versions on e-bay and amazon at greatly reduced cost

    Dee thank you I have just read your reply

    I'm spending all my money on writing paraphernalia these days! (But oh, it's so nice!)

    Thanks to both Dee and David, because I'm impressed by your enthusiastic reactions when exposed to the New Novelist software. So, that settles it. I'm getting it. I have to wait until September, but..... Well, my Writer's Bureau Fiction Course arrived yesterday, so I'll live until then!

    Bought it today. Should arrive next week. £23.99 at Amazon, w/ free postage since I also bought Sara Maitland's Fairy Godmother book (I know that's not the title exactly, but something like).

    I've just looked at the new novelist site. I'm sceptical about the idea of using software to create a novel. It just seems like a mechanical way of being creative. I haven't used the software so I can't comment from experience. I'm not sure I like the concept of writing a novel based on software - perhaps I'm being old-fashioned. Would all the great authors of the past (and present) have created good novels with the use of this piece of software? Isn't part of the challenge of writing a novel, the frustration of putting together a workable plot and piecing together intimate characters? Perhaps it works for commercial fiction, but would it work for something unconventional? I doubt it. I think what I'm ultimately saying is: does the use of the software detract from the satisfaction of going through the 'normal' creative process of writing a novel? I think it must do.

    Traveller,

    I think you have to look at it is an organisational tool. It's not softaware to write novels, but software to help you organise your ideas for a novel. For me, this is a good idea, because my notes and ideas get so scattered that all I can do is throw my hands up in despair.

    Look at all those typos. (Me? Typos? Ha ha ha.)

    I haven’t had it long enough to work a novel through to the end, but what it does give you is a place to organise all the bits of ideas, notes, half-thought-out scenes. And it steers you into making sure your characters are well-rounded, your plot logical.

    I’ve already started working on my next novel and am very happy with the way NN is pulling it together.

    Dee.
