I think Archer's 'storytelling' is just the same old argument about well plotted v's non-plotted novels, and in that vein The Da Vinci Code would be considered a well plotted novel - if you have a page turner the eye skims over the faults in the prose. But just try re-reading it

Roger, I don't disagree with anything you've said there... except that storytelling isn't my top priority personally, either as reader or writer.

Naomi, I agree completely. To me storytelling is more to do with page-turning and a lively plot. There are lots of other aspects to writing which some of us feel are as important or more important. Personally I prefer to read beautiful prose with a subtle plot rather than a rampant plot with mundane prose.
