A good point, Trilby. I may end up doing the whole book in the present tense after all. But I'll have a play around wiht it and see what works.

I've put two pinnacle moments of my otherwise past tense book into the present tense.
Two paragraphs are in the present tense, which adds a little more urgency to the situation and keeps the reader moving along.

I use present tense a lot. I'm mixing what I'm writing at the moment between present and future, and loads of it is in second person.
Breaks all the rules, I suppose, but that's how its coming out.
Isn't there an argument that says if this is how its being born, leave it, and come back later and look through critical eyes then?
good luck!

A very strong argument, which I definitely subscribe to.
