Miss Snark is reviewing the opening pages she asked for in her recent hook competition. Really, really interesting stuff.

Perhaps because these are by definition things she already thinks have potential, her comments are particularly un-snarky and often constructive about what's wrong. She even includes a link to the hook concerned, so you can see the relationship between the two.

Well worth a read, specially if you're at the stage of trying tightening your writing up and/or working on submissions. It certainly got me thinking about openings.

Thanks for posting that, Emma. I agree - it really is very useful and shows just how much, love her or hate her (I love her!)she knows her stuff.

I love the one where she queries a hook with 'you've put Osama Bin Laden in a romance novel?...good luck with that choice' or words similar. Good stuff, thanks for putting the link up, Emma.

    You're welcome, both.

She's answering the normal queries in the week, with another batch of pages next weekend, I think.
