Don't know if it's technique or not, exactly, but here's a link to a collection of new scripts which won a recent BBC Radio 2 drama comp- the thing was to imagine an encounter with a celeb. Particularly liked Soft and Gentle Wings... gives a good flavour of what radio bosses might be looking for.
