If anyone's read the novel that divided the Booker jury and won the Whitbred Prize yesterday, The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Night Time, by Mark Haddon, do review it for us. Just go to Books...and New Fiction.
Ah... that'll be why mine didn't get published then. By sheer coincidence I posted a review yesterday. I hadn't even seen this discussion until just now, it was just the last book that I read, so...
I just finished this last night and thought it was really good. Original, funny and sad, with plenty of pictures and puzzles to keep the mind occupied. Brill.
I recently listened to an interview with MH where he said he found the voice first then decided to give it to a 15 yr old autistic boy. I found this disappointing., as if he was just looking for a vehicle for his 'voice'. That said I still loved the book.

Phew! You nearly created a wormhole in the temporal field of WW then Colin!
I don't know much about the author of the book, but it really took me by surprise as I was expecting something totally different to what I read. It was a well concieved idea, and very beliveable.
I've just read last years winner. The Fire Eaters by David Almond.
There was a lot of localised speech in there. I'm from Tyneside myself, but I found it a bit too much in places. I spotted what was going on with the character of Joseph but it was left hanging, and we were given no real reaction from Bobby as to what his feelings were when his best mate kissed him. Unless I read that bit late at night and missed it.
