Some amazing authors in London over the next month- here's a little taste.

A S Byatt and Doris Lessing, on Understanding the Male Psyche (that will doubtless put a few backs up!), Tuesday 19 October

Rhona Cameron, Kathy Lette, Lynne Truss and Arabella Weir, on Laughter Lines, Tuesday 2 November

Helen Dunmore, Andrew Motion and Jon Snow, Monday 15 November

all are at 8pm, at St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, London

On the subject of good writers in London, can I just recommend Bookslam? It takes place on the last Thursday of every month at Cherry Jam in Royal Oak. They have a mixture of performers - writers, performance poets, musicians and also a DJ. It's my favourite night in London - really friendly and chilled atmosphere. I've seen some great people there - performance poets I'd never heard of but now think are amazing, e.g. Sophie Wolley, and also better known names like Toby Litt. The night is hosted by Patrick Neate. For more info, see www.patrickneate.com
