Very interesting edition of Radio 4's 'In Our Time' currently playing, though you can listen to it again and even, I believe, download it as a podcast.
Anyway, it's all about the Ancient Greek poet Sappho and her legacy. 'Seminal' doesn't cover it. And did you know that lyric poetry was 'poetry to be sung to the accompaniment of a lyre'? And elegiac poetry was always read to the sound of pipes? Fascinating stuff.
