I'll be shortlisting for a mere 22 competitions in 2005, putting together 6 issues of 7th Quark,
and of course writing for myself (and I'm a house-husband!)

We all have busy lives. It’s just that most of us don’t feel that our other commitments justify a second free month on the site.

    Er, a free MONTH?

I popped in, posted a post to clear up a point. had a brief chat (helpful, I thought) about block, posted a very helpful URL about approach letters and what editors want (my approach letter led to a three book deal), posted about awre writing versus intuitive (again, I believe, a careful, considered and helpful post). Mostly since then I've been defending myself.

    Nothing changes.

If the owner wishes to cut my second stay to a day, that's her privilege.

But I take it YOU think I should have paid £35 for the privilege of correcting a small
misunderstanding and posting a little advice and a few helpful tips?

Fair enough. We disagree, is all.

Am I trawling the forums looking for advice? Have I asked for advice?
Am I posting stories asking to be critiqued? No, no, and no.

because I was emailed to say
that some people may have got the word-count wrong
    on the Frantic Flash

so, I guess this was me - sorry for the confusion.

no probs, E, you were kind
enough to mention it, and I
believe the site had it's own little FF
    so everyone is happy

For thoise interested in their own personal challenge
here are the prompts that were emailed out two minutes ago
for the half-dozen who are flashing Saturday rather than Sunday

You could always do your own flash... (by 11:02 UK time)

    PROMPTS ARE

    1 Adventures in Silk

    2 Google the number 567

    3 Salamander

4 A Week to Live, a Day to Die

    5 The Problem With Quarks

6 A story beginning: Charles won't go there, not any more

Well, the 2 January comp has come and gone. Last night we wrote fast and furious. Now comes the wait! What happens next????

Normally the full list of entrants and scores
would already be up. But we had a surpprise
night visitor and I was up until 3AM

They will by the end of today (Author names, not story titles)
and the finalists will be forwarded to the judge, winner will
be announced 2-7 days after that.

Scores will appear on the web site as they are done, throughout today.

It's a bit of a drag as the story gets marked, I then have to go to
the intermediary to discover the author. Obviously we can't publish
the mark with story title as it could be seen by the final judge.

But I think a full hierarchy within 24 hours and final results in a week
is probably the best service on the planet!

Hey, best of luck you two - not that you need it!

Sorry I missed it (got stuck on the A303), is there a next time?

It's run on the first Sunday of every month
with an option to do the flash the day before
(which COULD BE the last day of the previous month)

So the next one is the 5th/6th February

Thanks for that, Alex. I'll be keeping an eye on the 7th Quark site today. And thanks for this comp - it was a lot of fun, a real charge. And yes, this is the quickest I've ever heard of getting back comp results. I imagine you'll be ready for a good snooze tonight!

    Sam,

Too bad about the A303 - maybe next time?

I'd LOVE a snooze, but there's also the late 32K comp stories
and as soon as they are posted (by midday tuesday) it's back
to getting the first issue of 7Q ready for press.

I have an hour's sleep booked for the 18th

    of March

LOL! Oops, sorry to laugh at your expense. Anyway, I hope it's a good one when it gets here!

    <Added>

    I mean a good hour's snooze!

Just to say the flash session went really well. Two sessions 8 & 10 23 stories from about half Boot Campers, half visitors (1 or 2 from EotW)

finally ended up with 23 stories and (so far) 128 crits with scores from 80-125/130

we'll do it again if we get any more interest
