by balligorm at 05:11 on 30 December 2006
Recently I saw this site up on the web , but the fees for the applicatin and attending your possible awarads ceremony remind me a lot of that other site that is a hoax as well.

    Heres the site any way

Are there any others to possibly look out for ?

    thanks

I've just had a trawl through the rules and they look OK – although I might be missing something. There is a clause saying the author retains all rights, which is reassuring. And it doesn’t look like those poetry scams where the prize is publication in an anthology and you have to commit to buying at least one at an exorbitant price only to find it’s full of crap.

The entry fee is high ($50) but so are the prizes… $150,000 would enable most of us to work full time at writing. And attendance at the award ceremony appears to be optional...

Is it all too good to be true?

I did a bit of digging around on Google, and came up with information that is seriously worrying about this competition

    I'm afraid I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!!!

take a look at the blog behind 'Writers Beware'

specifically the lengthy and informative entry for 21st December.

Aha! Well done Vanessa. That blog entry does say, down near the end, that it’s probably trying to be above board. However, the clause highlighted in one of the subsequent comments is enough to warn me off. This clause effectively states that they reserve the right to change the rules and conditions at any time. This smacks too much of the competition that geoffmorris highlighted where the rules were changed to transfer all rights to the sponsors. I don’t care how much the prize money might be – that would be way too high a price to pay.
