  • Writing in the North West?

Published or about to be? This might interest you.

I heard a talk at Authors North yesterday from a woman called Jane Mathieson, who was promoting the North West Libraries Reader Development Partnership. The aim is to raise the profile of libraries by making them an interface between readers and writers. They are particularly interested in promoting events where readers can meet local writers, hear readings and discuss the writing/reading process.

It’s still early days but, anecdotally, libraries in the area are reporting lots of enthusiasm and an increased turnover of the writers’ books.

This link is a site aimed at librarians, but it gives lots of details and links, and Jane’s email address is at the bottom of each page. For anyone not in the area – go to your local libraries and ask them to start a similar scheme.

Cheers Dee, it definitely interests me!

And I completely forgot about the SOA meeting. Any good?

Nik, I was particularly thinking about you when I posted this info. She did say they were targeting writers of adult stuff but I'm sure, with your expertise, you can work with them.

Yes, it was a good meeting. I met someone who was on a course I did at Caerleon last year, and was introduced to a very interesting woman who has had 40 M&B novels published. Crikey!

It’s a shame you weren’t there. It would have been lovely to meet you.

    Cheers Dee.

It does sound very interesting. I've already heard rumblings of this from various library reps. I'm poppinh into my local one tomorrow to arrange what I'm doing for adult learning week so I'll see what more info I can get, and of course pop it up here.

Disappointed I forgot about the SOA meeting. And yes, it would've been great to meet. I'm sure our paths will cross some time soon! You'll have to keep me up to speed with the Lancaster reading/signing/launch jobby. WW mail me the details when you know them!

    Cheers,

    Nik.
