Two nice bits of interest in the Jobs/Opps section today- a themed comp, from one of our favourite places; and the other an extended deadline for anyone who wished they'd entered the Douglas Coupland Award. Yes, Anna, I sat down and bashed out a story on Monday evening (thinking it closed at midnight on Monday) after a sudden burst of inspiration and found it a very interesting and enjoyable exercise trying to get down to 1000 words. I felt so proud seeing that number appear on my word count! As for the quality of the story...

Ooh, Elspeth, good luck- and now you've got a couple of days to double, triple check the quality... One of the other comps I've mentioned is 250 words- how do you fancy trying that?

Too late! I sent it on Monday. I'm too impulsive but at the same time it was especially the picture/word count challenge that attracted me. I saw the 250 one - very tempting but it's not the night before yet...
