I don't know how Amazon works, but is there anything to stop me pre-ordering 1,000 copies, and cancelling just before publication?

Sascha, if 'over here' is the US, then no. I've got a separate deal with Morrow, and they're bringing it out this time next year. Headline have an 'export and airside' trade paperback which I think they'll be selling in any other non-British markets - they have UK and Commonwealth rights, so it could be got in Canada from July, as far as I can work out.
