  • Writing a "gritty, urban novella"?
by EmmaD at 21:45 on 25 February 2014
Salt are looking for gritty, urban novellas which would be of interest to 18 to 24 year olds, for their new Modern Fiction e-only list

"Writers can be any age and live anywhere but the story must be relevant to young people living in contemporary Britain and be about characters they will feel passionately about. Crime and drugs, immigration and integration, music and sex, unemployment and survival may be the stuff of the story, but most important of all it has to be ‘unputdownable’.

Salt are looking for original and unpublished issue-led manuscripts of between 20,000 and 30,000 words – no more and no less. They welcome writers from all backgrounds and are especially interested in Black and Asian writers and say that they are particularly keen to represent the voices of women."
