This author gives her perspective on her attempts to self-publish her novels (and also to be traditionally published).

She's not saying don't self-publish, just that she has found value in being a 'hybrid' author. So, for her, it's not a case of one camp or the other, but cross-fertilisation can help both.

I think the explanation lies somewhere with the financial system.

The Philippines is considered to be a corrupt country, and some financial organisations (especially credit card verification services) have a blanket ban on IPs from here. It is quite feasible that any service provider will take their cue from the 'corrupt' list.

Of course, it may be something entirely different. But this isn't the first time certain writing resources have been blocked.

 

The problem is that I am not motivated to create a fanbase. The thought of it is laughable. My heart wouldn't be in it.

Having read the article (thanks, Sharley), I'm still on the fence. So, what to do? Keep writing.
