Some of you may have heard about the SFWA recently refusing to recognise books published by Random House's new imprint, Hydra as qualifying the author for membership of the SFWA, because the publishing contract is unacceptable.

This is something we all need to be aware of, since publishers will no doubt only increase their efforts to get authors to increasingly take the risks and put up the costs.
