My god - only just realised how big this thread is getting - what have I done?!? Waiting for the all powerful webmaster to trim it into shape at any moment.
Anyway, My point. Ah yes.
Many of you have obviously made a New Year's Resolution or two about sending your work off as I've suddenly been inundated with scripts this week! Many of them mention this thread, which is fantastic, so thank you Write Words (although I don't think they all come from members). So it looks as though the time line is getting even longer. At the moment I'm looking at something that was sent on 16th Dec, so we're looking at a month for an initial reply, and heading on for two months if I've got the full book. Shameful I know, but I'm catching up bit by bit and going as fast as my eyes can read....

Blimey Katie...16 Dec! That's like...last year! Sounds like a long time ago when you say it that way
I must say, I myself had wondered what you had got yourself into when you posted that you were accepting submissions. You're a brave lady!
Thanks for the information about the timeline. I think that for me, the fact that you're actually reading them and that mine too will be read at some point is good enough.
Happy reading! 8-)

Is this only open to UK residents?
-
Not necessarily. Some of our clients are based in Canada and the US so we're open to suggestions from all over.
<Added>
Oh and Nahed - that's the funny thing, it's taken ages for it to 'snowball' as it were. For the first couple of months I only had about half a dozen submissions from this posting (as far as I could tell) and now I've had that many in one week, along with all the usual random ones.
But I can't complain; got to be done if we're going to find all that talent that's out there...

With regards to bribes, I used to review records for Mixmag and once received a giant (about 2 foot diameter) basket of tropical fruits! I did actually review the record concerned (purely on merit, of course)....

I mentioned that to inspire people to send you a healthier option, Katie. Perhaps when you read my submission, you'll remember my helpful suggestion....
-
Goodness, I wouldn't call it a bribe. More of a token of good will and mutual sweet-toothedness...
Nahed
P.S. Katie, how did you like the diamond necklace I sent you??
-
Sorry, didn't mean to imply that those who enclosed a small gift were in any way being un-ethical!
And thanks for the suggestion of fruit Catherine (though it's a bit heavy for the post perhaps!)

Hi again,
Just reworked the historical novel in light of comments received. If you don't like it now, I think the dustbin men will have to make use of it ...

ps I won't mention chocolates, although I do so luv 'em meself so I know how you feel with all this temptation around!
-
Nonsense Scriptsplayed! I hope you were joking about the dustbin! You can't give up on the strength (or weakness) of one opinion. If you believe in it then persevere!
-
Can't believe how long this thread is. Is this the record for number of hits for a posting?
-
Try 16 ...

yeah but this has got 3276 hits! lots of writers desperate to get published
and poor old Elspeth has to bear the brunt heheheh
<Added>just had an idea - how about inventing a computer programme that can sift through manuscripts - perhaps it can be programmed to look out for typos which would be an automatic rejection, or you could have one that has analysed the components of a 'bestseller' and looks out for keywords/sentences in manuscripts - or how about computer generated novels (one that incorporated the attributes of bestselling novels to create a super novel :))- i guess we wouldn't need writers then... and we wouldn't need agents either if computers could do the job just as well (they wouldn't be susceptible to chocolate bribes either!) ;)
-
Scary thought, I'm a computer programmer in my "real" job, and when I started thinking about giving writing a go, I seriously thought about how I might write a programme which could generate stories. Lots of juicy mathematical algorithms in there, I'm sure, maybe I'll give it a go some day!
Or maybe that just shows what three years of programming can do to your mind!
