Sony haven't exactly been known for successful marketing strategies recently. They had world leadership with the Sony Walkman yet have somehow handed over that whole area to the smartphone, i-pods and all the rest. Then they were technically ahead of the game with the Sony e-reader. How did they manage to hand that on a plate to Kindle, Kobo, Nook, etc.? Their name hardly figures at all in that area now. I think they've lost the thread somewhere along the line...
Whatever this new approach does to or for Sony, I can't see it being much help to authors, unfortunately.
