I know this isn't the most romantic of topics, but has anyone else seen that the Royal Mail plans to change the way it charges for post next year. It'll be by size not weight, so that small packages which happen to be heavy (e.g. books) will be cheaper to send, but light, large items (e.g. posters rolled up) will be dearer.

I was trying to work out how this will affect postal costs when sending out manuscripts. Presumably it will become more expensive, because they are almost always A4, though one would hope sending a full length novel MS, which is very heavy and expensive at the moment, will become cheaper.

As someone who has recently gone freelance, these things matter!

An A4 manuscript is a lot smaller than the boxes I get from Amazon with a few books in them. Sounds like we might benefit. I can' help feeling that nothing will work out cheaper though - just lots of things will be more expensive.
