  • Weirdest rejection letter ever

Received this today, scribbled on the back of the letter that I sent the agency:

"Thanks for sending your material - its (sic) very intelligent but you are assuming we see your world - This almost could be perceived as a radio drama in the way you've written it - you establish the "mystery" and commence the story well - good luck - reaction to fiction is very subjective - indecipherable scribble"

Huh? I mean, seriously, while I'm delighted to get a personalised response (even if it's a no)... huh?

This is the piece of writing he/she is talking about:

in case anyone wants to see how a piece of radio drama should be written, apparently...

Gosh, I'm amazed at that response- not only indecipherable and not very good English but plain wrong- having just read the piece in question, it's so clearly prose. And very good prose. Have you uploaded more since then?

I just read your piece and thought it was excellent. Well written, with a good opening theme, and I had no problem visualising the scene. I didn't, however, feel there was anything 'radio play' about it.

Remember that some agents can have a limited imiagination. Some are just in it for the money. So don't take these comments to heart. Agents don't tend to make personalised replies unless they see some good quality to the writing, so accept the good, ignore the bad, and laugh merrily to yourself about the terrible use of language!
