    Hi,

I'm getting myself a bit confused...

When sending an email submission to agents, do you send the whole manuscript (which is what I have read on another site, to allow them to chose whether to read on) or do you still just send the first 10,000 words?

    Many thanks

    Eve

    Hi Eve.

From my experience, each agent/publisher will ask for its own specific thing, whether it be the first three chapters, a certain amount of words, a short synopsis etc. The important thing is to be clear about what they are asking for and giving them exactly what they want! Sadly it is very much a seller's market and us struggling prospective authors have few cards to play!

If it helps, I have a blog that I started to chart the progress or otherwise in my attempts to get my novel published. Check it out if you get a mo! http://tollesburytimeforever.blogspot.com/

If there is any way I can help please tell me. A success for one is a success for all!

    yours in hope,

    Stu

Yes, always send what they ask for on their submissions page on the website - whether or not they say specifically about email.

If they don't say, I'd send the traditional first three chapters and synopsis.

If they want to read on, they'll let you know, and you can send the full thing.

Thanks guys, I thought it was odd when I read that you should send the whole novel through!

Yes, never believe what you read on the internet. There's an astonishing amount of nonsense talked out there.

I've done quite a few email subs, Eve, lately, and no agent website has said send the whole novel.

Like Stu says, you just need to research each agent and send exactly what their individual guidelines require.

    Good luck!
