  • Send script by email - is it okay?
by tramsleeper at 11:28 on 09 September 2011
Hi everyone. I am trying to get my TV show off the ground and I have a few questions about approaching agents.

Oh, here is the very short trailer for those interested - feedback would be great.

However, the actual reason for my post was to ask for some advice on how to approach agents. I have filmed a full pilot - so sending the script by post just seems a bit silly. However, many agent subscription guidelines say this still required.

Others are advising me to ignore guidelines and just send the script and links to the trailer and sample scenes, etc.

Are email submissions becoming more acceptable? Should I just think 'stuff it!' and do it anyway. It does seem ridiculous in this digital age that an agent still wants a full bound script - doesn't really make sense.

Any thoughts appreciated. Many thanks P

A lot of UK agents still don't accept submissions via email partly because of spam & viruses in attachments, and partly because of angry rejected writers sending offensive messages.
Saying that, a few do accept emails. If their website says they want it by snail mail then that's what you have to do otherwise it's liable to get deleted from their InBox.

...you can mention the trailer in the cover letter. If they want it by snail mail don't forget to include an SAE for their reply - they're not going to send it by email.

And I don't know so much about scripts, but for novels agents ask for it to be unbound - makes it easier to read and write on.
