Hello, this is my first post here, and I have a few questions I hope you can help me with.
I am a published author, with three novels by a major British publisher. Because of a basic disagreement with both my editor and agent, I decided to leave both of them for my next novel, the fourth, which is now ready for submission. I've had some encouraging beginnings. Two editors from two major pub;ishres asked to see it, one after reading the sample chapters and synopsis, one because he knows me (he used to work at my old publisher) and asked for the full ms.
I have a third invitation from a third publisher - the publisher I actually want - to send in the full ms. I told them I'm giving it a last polish because I REALLY want this publisher.
At that point I decided to get an agent first, as I don't want to mess this up. So i sent off queries, describing the novel in question, to a sample of named agents, from both big and small agencies. I've had a good response; I now have a list of agents to send it to. One very big name among them wants to see it "very much". I sent it off three weeks ago to one fairly new agent, thinking that she'd have the most space for me, and she hasn't yet replied. I sent an email submission - according to their guidelines - a few days ago to another agency.
Am I getting greedy when I say I am eager to send it to some more agents - and now?
What I really want is the "right" agent and the "right" editor; it's so frustrating not knowing what these people are really like, and who to start with! Ideally, I'd like to send my sample chaptesr to five or six of them, and if more than one likes what they read, meet them and make up my mind but I guess that is utopian. I already consider myself lucky to have the response I do! One very well known agent took the time to cal me and say he doesn't do my kind of novels and chatted with me for half an hour, giving me all kinds of advice and even making a few recommendations.
WHat is the policy on multiple submissions on sample chapters and synopses? I understand that it's a no-no with entire manuscripts, but surely they can't expect us to wait months while we go through the list one by one? All advice welcome!
Ok. Can't resist. What happened to part 1?
Well... browsing through all the questions previously submitted, so as not to ask something that has already been asked, I found a thread titled Multiple Submissions somewhere on page 3 or 4.
Simple explanation!
With initial packages - submit to anyone and everyone as many times as you like! It's only full MSS that need a little extra care.
Good luck!

Thanks! I know it was a strange question for a published author to pose and i guess I should have known that but the first book was published almost by surprise so Ihavenot had to go this route before - it's like starting off all over again.
