  • Book lengths

I am working on my first book, a memoir-style book about growing up in Israel. I am wondering what length I should aim for.

I've estimated that similar kinds of books that have been published vary between 60,000-100,000 words.

Does anyone have any views or opinions?

    Thanks!

    Cassie,

I would write it as beautifully as possible then edit and edit again (and maybe again!). If it ends up at 150,000, so be it. That's only about 500 pages - not an umanageable size. Of course the important thing is to tell an interesting story without needless repetition or verbiage. My suggestion is that you should write to the best of your ability and let the length take care of itself.

    Richard.
