What cheering news for us all. Well done.

Hooray! And think of those thousand+ people having a lovely time, thanks to you.

Many thanks to you both. I believe the novel was longlisted in the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize, but as far as I know, it didn't get to the shortlist. Anyhow, it's out there, so it's off my hands now!

Well done, Becca. There's supplement of sorts in a recent issue of The Author commenting on the benefits and pitfalls of signings, etc. As someone who likes to hear authors discuss/ read extracts, I'm all in favour, and hope you contact your local Waterstones.

Becca, according to a new thread here its 'only' 20 branches; still not good, though, of course. Hope Bristol survives.
And because Waterstones absorbed Ottakars a while back, its a bit of a double whammy.

Well done Becca! Just visualise 800 books for a minute...it's LOADS!!!!

Well done Becca. A flying start!

Hi Jan,
it'd be good if Waterstone's Bristol does survive of course, but Halfling's being distributed globally to all kinds of bookshops in quite a few countries, there's even an indie in Mount Eden where I was born that is stocking it. But on a personal level, for book buying, I'd despair if Waterstone's closed. When Bristol Borders went phut, I was actually teaching creative writing in there and hadn't been told it was closing. I happened to turn up there one morning to buy something and the thing had gone! The place is so huge that no one has taken it over to this day.

Hi Cornelia,
I'd like to read that article, I am a member of the Soc. and so have all their magazines. You can't remember, I suppose, which edition the article was in?

Hello Rosy, Caroline and Roger,
Thank you for your support - I can't imagine what 800 looks like! I hope it's a steady seller.

It was the last one that came - last week, I think. The post's been dodgy so it could have been lost or held up so you may have to ask for another. Let me know if you can't get it, though, and I'll be happy to send you mine.
The book cover looks very good.

Hi Sheila,
Oh, I did find it in the end, thanks - dropped out on bathroom floor where I keep my copies of The Author. I think I'd be better off doing school visits probably, and maybe libraries... more fun as well, I suspect.
Becca.

That's really good to hear Becca. Congratulations! Sounds like big numbers for the first week or so. Are you writing another?
-
Hi Sarah,
Maybe I will, I do have an idea in mind that, like Halfling, came from a short story I wrote, but my brain feels like mush at the moment. I think it's that end of year thing!
Becca.
