  • Printing companies that deal with books
by Dwriter at 13:48 on 12 October 2010
Does anyone know any printing companies that can deal with paperback novels at all, I'm complining a list for those who I can try and print my book for me. Ideally I'm looking for something in the Kent area (if possible) and I want to keep the cost down as much as possible. Any advice that can be given would be great. Thanks.

Don't know of one, but you could just look in the Yellow Pages, and have a phone round. When you find some prices you like, they'll be able to show you samples.

Funnily enough, I did actually contact this one printer company which I found out of Yell and got talking to the guy. During conversation, I accidentally found out that he's married to a girl I used to go to school with! After that he said he could do me a really good rate! We're meeting tomorrow to discuss in person, but how's that for a small world?

Dunno where in Kent you are but one of the best printers I've dealt with around there is Freedale in Maidstone 01622 200123; they've done excellent corporate PR printing and binding for projects I was involved with. I seem to recall them saying they could handle books.

I did once do a book through Amherst in Otford, once again, very user friendly and so competitive on price they undercut the print-on-demand alternatives I looked at back then (2005)

Dwriter, there's a story in that encounter...

And yes, if you can stump up the cash for a proper print run, it's much cheaper than PoD.

For anyone who's interested, there's a good sounding company here - they do 5 books for £50 - if they are under 250 pages, which most of them aren't, but for anything up to 450 pages I think, it's £70.

So if you want a few copies of your hard work in book form to keep and give to family members, I think this price is very reasonable.
