to see my name in print, as an author. I received a copy of MIR7 in which I have my first published story. It's not the best in the collection and it's not the worst, and it's not in the beginning but more towards the end, bookended by two far more experienced writers' stories.
But-it has my story's title, which I thought of on the loo in the middle of the night, on the top left pages and my name on the top right so when I flick through the pages of this book - a real one with a cover and everything - I see it. And to be honest, I am thrilled.
I have lurked around this site for years, soaking up all the wonderful advice I could, writing away, having now got to the stage now where I don't know what else to do, but write. Despite this, I didn't ever think publication was for me. I would read of others' success, but it seemed so very distant it was best not to think of it in terms of my own writing.
I think that's why I'm writing this - it's for the people who've just been told to go back and change everything about what they are writing, and what it's like to have to do that to make what you are writing the best it can possibly be. And how hard it is. And how you must keep on going, despite this.
I don't have a book deal or an agent, but I do suddenly have a story in a book which is on my shelf, and I didn't ever imagine that would happen.
I am very proud.

And so you should be proud. Huge congratulations - and thanks for reminding us what is really important about writing.

How lovely, funnyvalentine! Can't you post a link?

Oh, well done!!!
And how well deserved. Shows it can happen if you hang in there. And also if you are willing to learn, and learn again. It must feel wonderful - you should be proud of yourself.

how wonderful! I am sure from reading your stuff on the children's group it must be completely captivating.
What is the title? (Intrigued by the loo connection!)

Oh, that's so exciting! What's MIR7, and where can we see a copy?

Funnyvalentine, that is such a gorgeous post. It's a lovely feeling. You've every right to be proud, and MIR has a good reputation. It's a great first credit.

Thank you so very much for your lovely comments. As Cherys said MIR 7 is an anthology of work from Birkbeck's writing courses.
I will post a link if I can.
Thank you again and have good writing days!
