I have just been looking at the opportunities directory and saw the listing for storyliners for Coronation Street.
Just what is a storyliner? What are the details of the work? How do you become a storyliner?
Curious in Cornwall.....
I did a course in 'Writing for Television' (just a short evening class at a local school), and I heard a little about this role.
Apparently many of the soaps have storyliners that work above the show's writers.
They come up with the plots, (and I'm sure they work really hard, rehashing old storylines from years gone by) all of the what is going to happen to who, leaving the writers to simply stick the scenes in that match this.
I guess it takes away some of the creativity for the writer, as they're working to someone elses idea, but at least how they get there, to a certain extent, is down to the writer?

Hmmm, I think that question mark at the end was supposed to be a full-stop. Damn stupid laptop keyboard.
Though I'm not sure...
Thanks, Ben. Yes, that does take away some of the writer's creative role, but as you said, the writer would still have to find their way along the story line. I would imagine that this also relieves the writer of some stress, which must be quite high for a serial programme!
