    Hi all,

I'm the editor of Tiffany Twisted, and it's been very interesting to read all of your comments. I realise the name (and website design) won't appeal to everyone, but my feeling is that it's better to have a name which inspires comment, rather than something bland which is easily forgotten. As far as being "serious" goes, well it's not a particularly "serious" publication; we're aiming for a light-hearted approach, and we don't insist that you mention the zine on your CV if you're too embarrassed!

If I could just respond to the person who wondered whether the publication was a "ply" to get people to pay for our services: in a word, no. Yes, our business does offer a range of editorial services, and to be honest, we'd be crazy not to advertise these services on a website aimed at writers. However, it is not at all a prerequisite of publication that you make use of our editorial services; to be quite blunt I don't feel it would be ethical to publish work which people had paid us to assist them with, and we don't do it.

It's disappointing that the person anisoara refers to, who left a comment on the site asking how to submit "without using our services" didn't leave an email address to allow us to reply to them. The procedure for submitting without making use of editorial services is outlined on the website and in all of the advertising we've been doing, and it's as simple as emailing your work to info@hotigloo.co.uk. It's also a little disappointing that the people who have suggested that we're in some way trying to "trick" people into using our editorial services haven't bothered to contact us to clarify the point either, before making these claims on a public forum.

Thanks for the opportunity to clarify this. Rather than have people post on message boards suggesting that we're somehow trying to con people out of money, we will probably remove the advertisement for editorial services from the website, and I'm grateful to you for making me aware of the fact that it has obviously caused some confusion.

Thank you for clarifying that. I am pleased to learn that Tiffany Twisted has a straightforward submission process after all.

I must add, however, that I do not regard WriteWords as a public forum - it has a fee-paying, password-protected membership - and it is unreasonable to expect writers not to talk to each other. After all, that is what we are here for - to talk to each other about our writing.

However, the forums are not visible to members only, even though only members can post on them. Do a google search for something you may well have mentioned on the forums, and it'll show up.

Try Tiffant Twisted, for instance, or even Random Line Generator.

Actually, I haven't got a clue what you'd get with Tiffant Twisted. Perhaps a site dedicated to those with clumsy fingers?

    Hi,

I totally agree with you, and I haven't at any point suggested that writers shouldn't be able to speak to each other - I'm not really sure what's given you that impression?

As bjlangley has said, these forums can be viewed by anyone. I found this post via a search engine and registered here purely so that I could defend myself. I'm very happy to see people discussing the ezine, and have no problem at all with the people who have said that they don't like the name or the website design - I know I can't please everyone, and I wouldn't expect to. What I do feel a little disappointed about is that a post has been made which suggests we're trying to con people out of money: that's a fairly serious allegation to make, and, like it or not, by publishing it online, you are putting it into the public domain.

Do you really read this as an allegation? I thought I was posing a question. You decide:

I've just had another look at the website, and am starting to wonder if it's not a ply to get writers to pay for proofreading, editing and critiquing. I noticed that someone has posted a question there wondering how to subit without using their services.... Hmmmmmmmm.

Can anyone at write words explain why these threads are open to be googled? it doesn't make for open and frank discussions if non-members can read everything. but I imagine there is a reason for it, just curious as to why.

in future I doubt I'll be contributing to any open thread.

I really hate that anything i say here however innocuous can be read by nonmembers.

What was your question, anisoara? I can only assume that the question is, “Is this some kind of scam?” If it was a question which you genuinely wanted an answer to, then I have to ask why you didn’t contact me and ask it directly? (Or, as a matter of courtesy, send an email to let me know that my motives were being questioned on a public forum, rather than allowing the “question” to go unanswered until I stumbled across it by accident.) My contact details are on the website, and I would have been happy to clarify matters for you, as I’ve done here. By posting this here you’re inviting people to speculate on the nature of my business, but doing nothing to clarify the matter. That isn’t particularly helpful to anyone.

Perhaps “allegation” is too strong a word. The part of your post which you’ve quoted, however is not a “question” – it’s a comment which, if allowed to stand uncorrected, could lead people to believe that there’s something “dodgy” about my publication.

As I’ve said before, I have no wish to stop people debating, and I’m all for freedom of speech. All I’m saying is that I’m disappointed that I didn’t have the opportunity to defend myself until now. I feel sure that if you were to discover that someone had been asking “questions” about YOUR business or motives in this way you’d be similarly disappointed.

I should also point out, in response to your “I do not regard Write Words as a public forum” post, that every time I’ve added a comment to this thread, the following disclaimer has appeared:

“Guidelines: Please remember that this is a public forum. Take care to avoid making any potentially slanderous or libellous comments, particularly when discussing agents, publishers or other companies.”

Answer: Oh yes, anisoara we are a scam. We will suck you penniless until finally we reward you with publishing your work after a 1 year editorial course.

No one in their right mind would ask anyone if they are scamming, who's gonna answer "yes" to that?

Only time will tell. As said before, I life the name, Tiffany. It's got p-p-p-p-personality.

I just had a look at the site and it's true that it doesn't really tell you how to submit or give a link (or is it just me being dumb?)
