They're very new and look interesting. They say they share all profits 50/50 with the authors – is that a refreshing change or have I had too much vino collapso tonight?
I think the question is, how do they define 'profit'? And do you trust them to calculate it fairly? You're dependent on them for the figures.
Plus I see from nosing around in the FAQs that they don't put ISBNs on their books, which is really worrying. It means they can't sell through any conventional channels, except their website and you buying copies or channelling buyers their way: "this is the only place from which our titles can be purchased which means that all profits go equally to the authors and Searle Publishing"
That definitely means it's a self-publishing outfit that can't write well enough to produce work themselves. Any of us can do that and advertise for submissions. It's perfectly legal, but don't expect to make any money or gain recognition from it! I can't believe they don't use ISBN numbers - they'll hardly sell a thing then.
