I find it so odd that short stories aren't commercial.
I mean, people are always going on about how not enough people read and the Quick Reads market is apparently booming - you'd think a short story would be less intimidating for a low-ability reader than a novel. And you could sell them cheap, and they're more suited to the e-readers and so on than a long novel.
Perhaps it needs some brave souls in publishing to build the market for non-literary short stories. And the market for literary short stories would eventually grow by association.
