I'm half-way through a novel in French and it should be finished in a few months (if I'm a really, really good girl).
The trouble is, everything else I write is in English (short stories etc.) and I've been living in the UK for 12 years. I feel totally out of touch with the French system, authors, book market etc.
Also, believe it or not, it's actually quite a bit harder to get published in France!
So, here's my plan: once I've finished, I get the whole thing translated (or I even translate it myself and get it checked out) and pitch it to agents in the UK.
Is that TOTALLY RIDICULOUS? I am going mad?
Help me, I do need motivation! I love writing that particular story and feel hartbroken thinking that it really stands no chance in France given my circumstances...

Yes, go for it. Then you can submit the french mss to agents in france, and the english version to agents in the UK - or even agents in the US.

Just seen this. I'd say it's a brilliant idea. But definitely translate it yourself then get it checked. Didn't do Beckett any harm...
