  • Should I consider getting a website?
by Dwriter at 12:01 on 05 March 2009
I was reading a blog about a query letter that caught an agents attention and in the letter the writer said she had a website. I wondered if it might be worth my time doing something like that if I was submitting to overseas agents. This website she had was fairly simple (she simply had a bio about her, a sample chapter and contact details) but it seemed to catch the attention and the agent obviously liked this idea.

So should I do something similar? Or are agents not so worried about whether a writer has a website or not? I don't think I can really put too much on it, just a sample chapter and all that--but would it be worth my time doing so?

I have heard of agents checking out writers websites after they've submitted to them. It's a useful thing to have if you have publishing credits, and can upload examples of these published articles, short stories, whatever.
It's also useful if you're submitting to US Agents ad only sending a query and short writing extract, because then you can put on a longer extract and synopsis, and maybe a ptted biography - just make sure everything is word perfect.
If, however, you are just duplicating the material you've sent in your submission then it's probably not worth it.

Indeed. Plus, I don't have much writing credits, so therefore the amount I could put up on there is probably not worth my time. Still, if it helps an agent see how someone can write it might be a good idea--but not sure if it's really necessary. Besides, with my credits I'd be better off doing a myspace or facebook page about it. And I doubt any agent is interested in that--unless anyone knows any different.
