John Creasey was rejected 768 (yes, 768) times before his first book was published. He then published 600 mystery novels!
-
Alice Pollock published her first book - 'Portrait Of My Victorian Youth' at age 102!
-
OMG...768 times... couldn't afford the postage for that many...come to think of it, are there 768 agents/publishers here?
Hope for us all then...and I'm not 102 yet either!
"don't give up your dreams,
don't you know it's dark before the dawn.
when you think you just can't take it, that's when you'll make it...
but you've got to fight a little harder,
push a little more,
gamble everything you've got to get you through the door..."
Thanks for the inspiration Roger!

Mary Wesley was 72 I think when she had her first book published.. and is still a major bestseller. Publishers frequently get it wrong, as do film production companies and theatres. I can't wait to hear from the first Writewords member to tell us they've got a deal though!

This is all very heartening for those who like me are not spring chickens lol...

He must have been an exceptionl person with boundless faith in his work to persist through all those rejections, and it's heartening to hear that determination can pay off. For those who need to know that we're not alone this is a good site for those low moments:

Was kind of hoping that someone might have had some success but it just goes to show how hard it is. As i always say though, never stop believing. You've got to have a dream, if you don't have a dream how you ever gonna have a dream come true.

They do say (although who 'they' are I've no idea,) that the secret of a happy and contented life lies within three things.
1. Someone/something to love.
2. Something to aspire to.
3. Something to look forward to.
If you can make sure that these are ever-present happiness is yours!
